Obituary of Eva Gertrude Mumford

Age 100, formerly of Windsor, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 20, 2015 in Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth. Born in Woodville, Hants Co., she was a daughter of the late Maynard and Lydia (Pettigrew) Mumford. Eva was an employee of Nova Scotia Textiles for over 50 years where she helped unionize the company and went on to hold various offices in 159 United Textile Workers of America. She was secretary of the Annapolis Valley Labour Council for 23 years and the Town of Windsor Housing Authority. Eva sat on the Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board and was a program convener for the West Hants Historical Society. She attended Falmouth United Church, taught Sunday school for 28 years, volunteered with charities including the Hospital Auxiliary and was a long-time member of the NDP. Eva is survived by her niece, Barb Hines, Windsor. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Hilda Mumford and Mabel Hines; brother, Wiley in infancy. Special thanks to all the staff at the Windsor Elms for the comfort and care shown to Eva. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). A graveside service, open to everyone, will be held 1:30 pm Tuesday, June 23 in Maplewood Cemetery, 1186 King Street, Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eva may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
