Obituary of Maureen Candis Shay

Age 79, of Hantsport, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2015 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with her family by her side., Born in Three Mile Plains, Hants Co., she was a daughter of the late Gordon and Jessie (Harvie) MacDonald. Maureen was known for her delicious homemade pies, egg tarts, bread and rolls. She also loved to read and knit socks and mittens. Having visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was one of her favourite ways to pass time. She was a strong willed woman who had her own opinions and spoke her mind. Maureen is survived by her husband of 62 years, Douglas B.; daughter, Bidy (Gary) Johnson, Hantsport; sons, Allie, Porters Lake; Michael (Judy Hudson), Centerville; Craig (Cassandra), Hantsport and a nephew who was like a son, Rick Shay (Pam Buffet); grandchildren, Ben Johnson (Bobby Jo Coney), Andrew (Stephanie) Johnson, Ryan, Jeffrey, Coady, Jared, Jessie (Adam Gillott) and Taylor Shay; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Alexander Johnson, Peyton and Carter Shay; brothers, George (Marilyn), Larry (Sheila), Ralph (Hilda) MacDonald; sister-in-law, Shirley MacDonald. Besides her parents she was predeceased by brother, Blaine and a sister in infancy, Joy. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). The family would like to welcome visitors to come by the funeral home, Saturday, July 18 between 11am and 1 pm to visit with them in the Elmcroft Reception Centre and share stories and enjoy a light lunch. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Family flowers only by request.
